Always on the lookout for a bargain, I came across "Onse winkel" in Alberton on Saturday...

Run by Solidarity, it supports destitute white Africkaans families, by taking in donations of unwanted saleable items, and passing over the profits in support of this.

I'm not exactly shure, but there seems to be a few different focuses, One directly supports homeless Africkaans families by means of food & welfare parcels, another directly assists students who cannot afford education fees and I'm shure there are a few more...

Anyhow, I managed to dig out a cycling top, with the pockets for waterbottles at the back for R10.... For my bicycle that is part of my roadside camper.

The intention is that when I get to a little dorpie, I can park somewhere, take the bicycle off the rack at the front and go and experience the dorpie.... Just like I did at Aaavoelkranse.............Much easier than walking around.

A huge shout-out to Anton, who is an avid cycler for guiding me to select a good bicycle... He says I got a real good one and at the price "stole it"....... Thanks Anton

But back to "onse Winkel"

I really had great difficulty in NOT taking them up on their poster...... PRAAT MET ONS... ALLE PRYSE IS ONDERHANDELBAAR....laugh

I've got them on my radar now, so I'll be popping in there frequently...

AASVOELKRAANS No place at the back, so I put it on the front. Never seen that done before so it was all  try-out. The rack was made but not complete, anyway it works just fine. It's since been painted, I've got a pool noodle to cover the support and cam-lock belts to tie it on

Morning Warren

To say the least, one benefit of the rack at the front---it conceals the vehicle name.smiley

Warren.  Your saddle looks a bit low.  For a more comfortable and effecient ride try to adjust it accordingly.

Take your leg inseam x 1.05 and use it as the saddle height.   That would be the height from the pedal centre to the top of your saddle all along the seat tube.   The pedal must be in the low position (near 6 o'clock) aligned with the seat tube.     Thank me later smiley

HEHEHE.......

That bit of silly decorative lettering emblazoned across the front’s not the name at all.....

That’s what the manufacturer THINKS it’s name is, unfortunately, the manufacturer gave up the authenticity of “Land-rover” when they started producing silly SUV’s, called the Discovery...

Which of course it is...A Discovery..... Discover how much you can be irritated.....

When I first got him out of sheer frustration I named him It’l Dodat  ....

Bamboozeled by the electronics, every time I wanted it to do this it would blooming well do that.... Every time I wanted it to do that it would do this......

My irritation reached Kilimanjaro heights at the petrol station trying to get the bloody fuel flap to open...... With the joggie laughing at my stupidity.... You HAVE TO switch the thing off BEFORE the flap will open..... Nearly took a screwdriver to the flippin fuel flap....

Took me 600 odd Km to figure out I was pressing the cruise-control flappy-pad-ly thing on the steering wheel the wrong way for it to work..

HATE sophistication in cars....

BUT...........

New beginnings, new name.... With this new direction as a one person camper, he has a new name  emblazoned all over the back window.... I’ll post a pic tomorrow...

But to the bicycle rack....

I’m using the back of the Landy as a kitchen / picnic / cooking / dishwashing area so I can’t simply use a standard type bicycle rack that fits into the tow-bar receiver.

The other options open to me are: - Fitting it to the spare wheel so that it swings out of the way, or fabricating a swing away bike rack.

I’m already not comfortable with the weight of having the spare-wheel mounted on the door, so I did not want to add to that with a bicycle & rack as well, and a swing out rack, although totally possible is a lot of fuss and bother, so that’s why I went for the front...

(You know... I’m the moron that always travels the road nobody else will even consider)

Warren maak al weer n plan dit werk vir jou seat van fiets is lag om mooi te sien

Take your leg inseam x 1.05 and use it as the saddle height.   That would be the height from the pedal centre to the top of your saddle all along the seat tube.   The pedal must be in the low position (near 6 o'clock) aligned with the seat tube.     Thank me later

So last night I thought it would be a clever idea to mark the height of the saddle with a coki pen mark around the saddle pole, then I would not have to remember all of this...

So I "snipper tool" print & photocopy the instructions that anton so kindly spent time and mooite to give me,  and eager beaver off home and began to sort out a coki-pen mark around the saddle pole

DEEGLIK..... And I mean DEELIK........... Meet ek nou die insoom van my broek.....

I even use my sewing measuring tape... Set the pedal at the 6:00 position in line with the seat tube....

And that's where the wheels fell off the bus....

Oh! Perhaps I measured my inseam in inches?  (My sewing tape is like me.... (Old and has both)

Nope........

Jong, het ek nou gesukkel ! Every time I re-measured, double checked that the pedal was at the 06:00 position EXACTLY in line with the saddle tube.......... I came up with the result that I have to CUT the saddle pole

So Anton please help... Could it be that you are wearing longer trousers than me?

Like I posted, new direction, new purpose, new beginings, new name....

And so, It'l Dodat is no more......

As I've always maintained, A vehicle is not a JUST a vehicle, it is a team!

Me and my car.....

A team....

I push the pedels, I turn the steering-wheel and I spend the money... And the car goes where I turn the wheel......

So this time I thought that I should also put a tiny bit of "me" into the new name....

And, because these day's, as I get older-n-older, quicker-n-quicker, I seem to always be asking the car half of the "team" (I travel alone, so I can only talk to the car).. This bloody question....... laugh

Now in line with my tradition of having my Forum name the same as my car's name......... I suppose I'll have to change my forum name as well.... Spoke to Anton Yesterday.... Nog nie anwoord gekry....

rgfsdfeis new name is: -

The where the fork are we car ?

Warren, the in seam is not measured from the lowest point in the groin, those appendages are ignored in the instep lenght.

More Neef.... It's a great pleasure to cross paths again with you. The optimus. I got it to run, but not "roar" yet.

Going by what they say on U Tube, I think I have to strip and re-wick it. So Far I've managed to find / loose / find it again, a piece of mop that uses cotton strings, for a wick...

But thanks again, I really do appreciate the gift, I'll get to fixing it

This in-seam story....

laugh Skerp! Added that bit to the instructions....

Fortunately I never even thought about..... If I had unwittingly factored THAT in........

But I think I've finally got it.... Last night I had another go at it..... Studying Anton's instructions deeglig AGAIN....

And it sort of makes sense... Well, seems I don't have to CUT the saddle support,

Seems I have to wear a pair of LONG TROUSERS.......(Ek't eergister kort broek gedra)

Anton never said......

Dankie Anton....cheeky
