Ok, so I have to confess, I also have a dirty secrete....
I visit those shops..... Just about every Saturday & Sunday.... But mostly on Sunday’s when I got nothing better to do...
I’ve even got frequent shopper status... I get credit form the shopkeeper/s
It’s absolutely amazing what’s available there...
I call them the “make-your-own-price”stores.... Because, if you get there around 13:00 in the afternoon the shopkeepers are mildly drunk / stoned / asleep, and not interested in bargaining, so they just say “Charge yourself”
Gospel truth.... Not a word of a lie....
See “make-your-own-price store” sounds a heck of a lot more upmarket than the rubbish dumps.. Hehehe
Truth be told, a heck of a lot of my camping stuff comes from there....
Take this tent for example....
Got there, a shopkeeper runs up and tells me he’s got a tent..
How much? ....R100.... let me see.... Pulls this out of behind form behind... Where are the poles... Ow baas no poles...... (But I know a thing or three).... Ok, I’ll give you 80 bucks, If I find poles I’ll pay you R100 if no poles you keep the R80..... Yes baas, yes baas
Straight to Outdoor Warehouse... Let me quickly borrow asset of poles from the campmore 3x3 x 2.2 domie..... They are plug & play... Fit like a dream....
Back to the shop give the shopkeeper his R20... And I got me a Military grade, ripstop canvas, cammo-print (sublimation process) domie with an extra thick groundsheet for a 100 bucks...
Ok, so poles cost another 800 bucks, and a skull cap 600 but what the heck.... 1400 bucks, some rope some sliders and I’ve got a 6k – 7k tent that I doubt nobody else has.....
Then there are the 30 army tent (you know the big ones?) that I got for free.... The 2 marachell tents that are impecable (marachel is from the early 70's) / poles / a gazeebo.... Oh somme a whole mess of things....
Dont think there's too many guys who shop for their gear at the dumps.....

VOORTREKKER:
Big Score!
