Suid Afrikaners is baie lief vir braai, ons skep 'n geleentheid om te braai.
Warren's roast
That sound delicious. Meat done like that has a unique taste. No other way of roasting chicken beats a chicken done in the Weber. Not even if you cook it in the Landy's engine. ![]()
Ja, Johann, ons mense hou nou maar eenmaal van ons braai! Laat die ander lande maar barbecue, ons braai!!
Unique flavor of chicken-on-engine...
More Tante...
One thing though, you have to be a little cautious.... A bird done on the engine can aquire a unique flavour....
20w50? 20w30?... Aggg I can't quite put my finger on it, but the mechanic's on the forum will be able to correct me....
One thing I can tell you, though..... When that aroma of cooking chicken starts to permeate through the cab.... Cooked or not, 20w30-50 or whatever..... That blooming bird gets chomped...
My very kindly rather elderly, regte-egte-afkomstig-van-die-plaas afrikaaner neighbours... He recounts, back in the old days (here in the mid 50's) they used to stop on the side of the road and cook up boereworse on a foschel (flat-spade) and have boeries for eats along the way......
Think that's not such a bad one... Might give that a bash...
Ok, so you all know I find and re-abilitate discarded braais....
DID YOU GUYS KNOW?... I've got about 30 braais & cookers?..... YIP 30 of them.....
But back to braai-ing.. Anyone braaied doing something a little different...

Diesel braai
Warren nothing beats a Land Rover braai with or with out the 20 w 50 aroma .However the diesel and anti-freeze herbs does wonders for a constipated person .
School fees en die groot nood
Jaa..........Nee....
Ek’s nie so goed met story vertel, maar gebruik so bietjie verbeelding.... regtig wens ek kon teken, en so comicial sketsie sal baai toevoeg...
Daar’s n hel-of-a-good-reason why I now carry one of those fold-up-stands with a toilet seat that has a clip on the inside for a plastic bag, in the sakkie on my spare wheel cover.... Most people put their braai in it.... Not me, I put my groot-nood toilet...
The reason my friend, is that I can find the blooming thing and get it up in record time...
The real problem was the school fees I had to pay to learn that little piece of golden information...
Here's how it happened.......
So there’s me happily driving along tussen nerens en erens, and that pie I had back at the last gararge starts talking..... Or was it 2 pies?.... Can’t remember
Not just talking... really complaining....
Eventually daar’s g’n meer wag nie.... Dis nou...... Of... ek gannie die opvoue sitplekkie nodig he....
Ok ek’t n plan....
Boude vas-geklamp, tighter than a Gedore vise-grip,hupple krupple stappie-stap ek agter die klein ou boompie en do what a man must do...... Sonder die donnerse sitplekkie.....
Alles toe weer inni Landy..... Ry ek maar verder...
Volgende boompie selde prentjie.... Boude vas-geklamp......
Tot en wyl die Immodiums begin vas-vat.... So hele paar kilos verder pad af.....
Turn’s out I put the darn thing on the roofrack......
So ja... those where the school fees where learnt....
NEVER BUY PIE/S AT A GARARGE
PUT YOUR BLOOMING EMERGENCY LOO WHERE YOU CAN FIND IT
AND THE LAST PIECE OF ADVICE? .......
Make ONE hundred percent certain the inner ring is clipped properly.... Them sensitive things down there don’t take kindly to being pinched by the ring when is does clip and your'e sitting on it.... EEK!![]()

So iets?
Pork roast on my Cobb, done with lemon / garlic / herbs spices and Black label. Under the grid are the potatoes / mushrooms /baby carrots and onions.......
I prep my roast or belly the night before, (actually I think a belly is nicer) First I pre-cut the skin into squares then rub it with course salt, wrap it in cling-wrap then put it in the fridge....
If it's a belly, rub the roast with a bit of cooking oil, ( I don't like olive oil) rub on all the chopped fresh herbs- garlic - course pepper & spices, then I first let it cook on the open coals skin down for about an hour / hour & a half to get the skin into crackle, then turn it over, put the lid on and let it go for about 2h, occasionally basting with the beer sauce in the moat...
Yummmmmmm
