Morning all,
Continuing from my post "WARREN" which was about things, STRICTLY
camping related that went down during my "forum holiday".
This post, "WARREN CONTINUED" is about things, STRICTLY
camping related, That's currently happening, otherwise that post will get too long.
A good philosophy : - ONE PLAN IS NO PLAN, TWO PLANS IS ONLY ONE PLAN
THE UBERSCOOT <That's what they are officially called BTW>
BACKGROUND - because I travel SOLO
Going back several years now , I've always tried to have a backup plan in the event that I become immobolised far from assistance - By far I mean upwards of 50 -60 Km
Originally I took care of this by keeping a 75L backpack mounted on a golf-cart so that if something wen't wrong I could "walk out" with all the neccessary which was kept in one place
Some of you will remember that, If you want I'll post some pics.
But as I got older I, things got to the point where I really didn't think that relastically, I could manage 50 - 60 - 70Km hike - This was brought home to me when I did a day hike at Klipriviersberg nature walk ---- So I devised another plan ---- replace the backpack with a bicycle
But that too was not not that easy -- I found that out in lady Grey when I did the mountain challange --- You fellas have seen <and good naturedly teased me about that quite a lot> -----
Ok so where too now ---
CURRENT - The Uberscoot - Posted about that in my post "WARREN"
I've seen them in pictures but only reciently set eyes on one --- and it jumped out at me that this was a viable solution to my problem ---- It has a 70cc motor, / can get speeds up to 60Km per H / uses only 1L of premix petrol for 60 odd Km's / weighs in at 26Kg / Unlike a bicycle it folds down, so stowing is not a problem....
PICTURE: - SIMILAR TO THE ONE I GOT - This is an older version to the one I got, Mine has two suspension springs up front. - The seat & seat-post also come completely off

IN THE "FOLDED" CONFIGURATION - This is what really makes them suitable for me

So --- <And too the point of this post> This weekend I took the plunge and bought one, second hand, off facebook marketplace. Paid only R5000.00 ---
--- <They are R12000.00 new !>
It's in good condition, and after tryout took it directly to the agents <Biker's warehouse in Mabalongwe drive> just to have it looked over & serviced.
I'm due to get it back come Saturday ----
I really do think this is going to be the final solution, to my travel SOLO problem.
FROM HERE ON GOING FORWARD
As I said in my post 'WARREN" Apart from some very minor things this, together with the luggage box, I have finally arrived at the end of a very long and enjoyable journey to put together, what for me, is the most ideal camping & touring rig, that will carry me forward once I retire and become semi - nomadic.....
Quite a significant milestone ---
Morning Wessels Lighter side Cont.
No they are air filled. So now ----
Hehehehe
I’ll have to pack on the scoot at least: -
A puncture kit
A tyre pump
12V battery for the pump -----
Or how about a little trailer ------
Ooooo-neee-a-a
Fug it Warren

That stuff works. Had it in my Honda XL500’s tyres and never had a flat.
Now there's a plan ! Moerse baie dankie

Ok so I can just see it ---- In my mind ---- Something like a campcover Cadac gas bottle sakkie tied to the seat post with: -
A esbit cooker / lighter / fuel tabs / 2 tins of baked beans / army water bottle & fire bucket coffee / sweetner / cremora / so klein drie-poot stoelitjie / toilet papier ---- The blooming list is endless ---![]()
Met so 'n naam.....
....kan dit mos net werk. Dit klink te goed om waar te wees, amper soos Pro Long.
Wessels Photo's
with pleasure, probibly next week ?
But here are a few as she stands --- other thn the luggage carrier & uberscoot nothing's it is what it is --
Essentially I've set it up for 2 different applications.
(1) Roadside stop over's or Stop-'n -go / overnight stealth camping and
(2) static camping such as in a resort, where I might spend more than a day or three
I know that the way I camp <in-vehicle camping> is NOTHING LIKE ---- NOT EVEN CLOSE TO what all the guy's here do So it must be very weird to most
LUGGAGE CARRIER - swung out so that the back door opens, and provides extra counter / workspace

WHERE I DO THE COOKING

INTERIOR LAYOUT

BLACKOUT CURTAINS

AWNING OVER THE BACK

ROOFRACK LAYOUT - If I have "to go very quickly " daars nie tyd virre screen nie --- sit hom tussen die deure - Bicycle is no more

Warren is gesort
Warren you can go anywere you are rigged for all terrains![]()
Grocery cooler
Morning Warren
Thanks for the peep into your set up. That Grocery cooler, is it just a cooler box, or is it something that actively operate from 12V?
I assume the fact that it is in a bag, indicates that it does not generate any heat to be disposed off.
Impressive camping set up, now the Landy must just keep going!!
wessels - grocery cooler
Wessel, that grocery cooler is just a polystyrene cooler box, over which is a rip-stop canvas bag
I have set it on it’s side and “hinged” the lid so that it opens flat, there are 2 pieces of thin para-chord that hold it horizontal.
My method is: - 3 frozen gel packs last +- 2 days, then I swop them out with 3 more that I’ve frozen in my fridge freezer.
For bread / cabbage / tomatoes / grapes – lekker eating those cold / you know those kind of goodies it works fine
For the other stuff, I simply utilise the fridge compartment and the freezer for the meat & stuff that needs to remain frozen... ice cubes ---- lekker
Once fully provisioned I’m good for 10 days + without needing to re-stock.
The minimum “10 days” totally independent was one of the original requirements that I set out at the outset.
Landy ----
Errrrr yes that too... The bus is 20 years old, 300K on the clock, wearing Chinese shoes, took me over 10 of the toughest passes in SA ----- Reckon he's OK ---- but that's what the uber-scoot's all about ----
My idea is a 110 % RELIABLE - waaay more than Toy / Ford / Paj..
.. vehicle (tested over the passes) <That's my "plan">, and my next plan is the Uber-scoot!
NAUDES NEK -----![]()
