YARD INVASION DOGS CORNER INTRUDER, INTRUDER CAPTURED
INTRUDER PHOTOGRAPHED FOR EVERYONE TO SEE
HEHEHEHE![]()
Talk about “click bait” or twisting things.....
Well, this all happened while I was at work, and my son and his 2 kids where at home...
Apparantly he heard Scruffy & Grumbles going bezerk in the back and came out to find the Yard intruder at my cottage door.....
We have absolutely no idea how the intruder got into our yard as we have houses on three sides and a solid fence across the front...
My son took the intruder into custody, And I managed to get a photo or three, and so that everyone can see the intruder here are photos.....
Anyhow my Caylin my 9 Yo granddaughter has adopted it and we made a nice little enclosure, with a shallow pool and a cool sheltered place for it to hide away out of paving stones on bricks.... Goes by the name of Shelly... ( Caylin's idea... Not bad actually)
I believe it's called a "painted tortous" but I'm still going to look on the net ..... Perhaps one of you can help me out here...
Blooming hell ! you think a tortous is slow? Think again.... for it's cumbersome shape, this thing can get a jolly move on

Nice intruder Warren, yes…
Nice intruder Warren, yes you wil need a permit to keep it!
It needs a lot of walking space, and greens for food.
Update.... policie stasie toe.. Identiteid to bevestig
It's a red eared terrapin, exotic species and invasive. Also Carnivorous.......
SO.................
Our marrogo / cabbage / lettuce & carrot ain't gonna cut it....
Frogs / mice / chicks or specalised pellets....
And it'l need a large fishpond with reeds & rocks and a basking light....
So best option is to take it to the exotic pet shop..... We are not set up to look after it properly....
Caylin's going to be very upset....
Kill it. Like you said;…
Kill it. Like you said; alien invader. Not good for our ecosystem.
No, that I won't do...
I believe animals are here for us to use, so I don't have a problen eating meat.
But to just kill an animal also does not sit comfortably with me... Even when I fish, I catch-n-release....
No, I'll take it to the exotic pet shop and someone who is more able to look after it will take it from there...
The problem with those is…
The problem with those is that they are capable of a nasty bite and carry salmonella (which doesn’t affect them but can cause problems for humans when handling them). As a result pet owners release them (most probably what happened to the one you found). This species grows fast and it then outperforms indigenous terrapin species and pushes them out. They also pose a threat to indigenous frog species so in some cases ecological xenophobia is perfectly justified and you’d be doing your local ecosystem a favour by terminating it.
Update....
I’ve got in touch with a wildlife rehabilitation centre who would be willing to re locate it into its natural habitat....
I know you chaps think otherwise of me... But it’s just one of God’s little critters ... Done me no harm, If I can see right by it why not...
Nice Warren, hope the little…
Nice Warren, hope the little one did not feel to broken up because of a very good deed, indeed👍👍

You know how it goes with 9Yo's ... Specially the girls....
Last night was baie hartseer, so we explained that it's very lonely and has no friends and is probibly very sad and crying..... Ne!
But we also said we would look out for a tortose for her.
(My neighbour, 2 houses to my Left, who passed over had a huge one that they had had for years that she once interacted with)....
Well that may or may not happen.... The jury's not yet out on that... I'll speak to Chris, & try for a bunny or something a bit more domestic / interactive...
It's begun it's adventure to get back into the wild..

Licensed intruder
Groete
