Changed times and camping

Again, I read on the news that another person has been murdered, a tyre bound to his feet and thrown into the Port Elizabeth harbour...

This is the second athlete tht has been attacked, I'm sure you all know about the cyclest who nearly had his legs chopped off..

All the years, and there be a huge wack of them behind me, I've often camped along the way just spot a hidden spot, dive in and settle down... Truck stops / gararges /  anywhere, even down little farm road tracks...... been doing it , even back to my motorcycling days.

Touring adventures was a breeze... Only booked in at a resort here and there.... washed in rivers and the sea.... Free, unfettered, come / go / do as I please with no time agenda...

The concentration camp tour,  the sightseeing tour through the Eastern TVL, My vespa scooter trip right around the country, countless weekend trips to Durbs where I slept on the beach & stored my junk in the lockers at the railway station, Hiking the berg solo..

These are just some of the adventures that come to mind, Going solo made it even more exciting... They where wonderful adventures, the embodiment of camping......

But now?................. Now I'm not so shure..... I don't think that I would actually be comfortable doing that anymore..... And it's so bloody sad.

I've been planning just such a trip that I've called "Dorpie kruip" I want ot go to the N/cape Middle OFS, to all the teeny tiny dorpies that are not on the map, and visit them.... live the flavor of the place, get the history....

Plan to use my plat-kar & my little fiberglass trailer, and just donner a cheap tent ontop of the trailer.....

But now? What's the point? 99 % of those places won't have secure camp grounds.....

Is it an end to true camping? How could I still do something like that?

Warren, jou laaste vraag;

As ek so baie sekuriteit soos Warren moet opstel bly ek by die huis.

Has anyone ever been there?

The overwhelming aura of battle, still today, envelops the site.....

Go there.... Sit quietly...... You cannot but sense it.....

An amazing experiance....

Warren, his body was found in the water at the harbour, with the tyre tied to his foot.   However, the police say no foul play is suspected.   If that is true, then it means he committed suicide.

He came from France to take part in the Ironman, one cannot understand why he would come take his own life here, the night before the race.   He got up, in the middle of the night, left his phone and wallet in the hotel room (together with his wife) and walked straight to the harbour (according to camera footage).

His wife said they were aware that it was dangerous to go out at night.   A post mortem must still be done, which will probably show whether he was fighting an attacker.

Morning Freda.... sorry that you got a teeny tiny bit peeved yesterday.....

Anyhow, I don't believe one single word the police say.... Probably said what they said in the interests of the ANC's international reputation, and has got absolutely nothing to do with the truth....

Just like that idiot of a police General that stated farm murder's do not exist, because he has never seen anything on the news and It's a plot to discredit the government...........

Yeah right! There is a news blackout on farm murders....

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Nou is ek net mooi die bliksem hel in............. Gaan vir tannie tea-pot kuir en afkoel

Hi Warren.  Colin and I were just talking about this yesterday.   Not another word about this guy in our newspapers.   If there was evidence that he was attacked and murdered, we are sure the media would have discovered it and reported about it.  After all, it was an international sportsman who died here and the whole search and everything else, was reported on daily.

I think he did commit suicide and his family probably do not want any more reports about is.  Before they found him, his wife did say that they went out for dinner that evening.  They got back to their hotel at 21:00, he went to bed and she went for drinks with a friend.  When she returned to the room at 23:00 he sat up in bed and asked where she had been.  She did not say that they had an argument, but maybe there was some problem between them.  As I mentioned, she also said he was aware that it would be dangerous to go into the streets alone that time of the night, yet he did so.

If we should hear anything more about it, I will tell you here.
