Nothing to-do-on-a-sunday cookers - It'lDodat

Some of you may remember A while ago my nothing-to-do-on-a-Sunday project to make a cooker using only minimal tools, and must cost nothing... So out of a coffee tin, a 5L paint tin, a piece of gutter and a handful of old cement powder (all found at the local rubbish dump) I made a rocket / hobo stove, which reached gassification and gave me 3L of rolling boiling water after about 20minutes..... (See first picture)..................

Long story short, I've been working on a new thing. The background is that at my holiday cottage near Brits, we often have competitions of ane sort or another, and a pootjie competition is one of them.

So you get "points' for ingrediants / preperation / table setting and how well you "bribe' the judges with klippies & Coke or similar.........

I actually donated the floating trophy....

In the past I've done quite well... So for this up and comming competition I dreamed up an army setting... Table set with dixies / army pikstel (knife fork & spoon set) an od bit of ex-army thing to decoraste the tabe.... Even got an army cammo rtable cloth... And of course an army water-bottle filled with.....

Well you guessed it klippies & Coke......from an army fire-bucket....

My problem is to have a "theme-cooker"

Then the other day, at the rubbish dump I found just the thing.... The braai to hold the staaldak......

Well here it is then... My latest invention........ And wat I posted about in the forum...............A STAALDAK STEW cooker.....

Served in Dixies......

Wadda think?

Do post photo's of the potjiekos kompetisie.  The table, your pot, everything.  Wat gaan jou ingredients wees?    Jy is lekker slim ne.  Jy self drink mos geen alcohol, so jy maak die judges dronk en jy bly nugter.laughyes

Wow, never expected it to migrate this fast......

But anyway.... To go on a bit....

This is my plan....

Points for prepping: - do the same as last year, have a bowl to keep rinsing my hand off.... Nobody else thought of that and my bribed judge told me that got me extra points...

Points for cooking: - Well there I'm relying on my STAALDAK STEW cooker... Think that's unique enough to get me something... I lost points last year because I used my Cadac bosveld cooker and not fire......

Bribing the Judges: - So while I'm doing all the cooking & whatever..... My neighbour, who's a delightful, salt of the earth Africkaans ex amma-plotter of some 75 years, well he stokes a mean mampoer.... (not that I've tried) but even Chris (my adult son gasped & choked.....So while I'm all a-kookin I'm gonna have a army waterbottle and a fire-bucket on my cookstation with the mampoer.....

Since nobody els will have mampoer by the time that lot sink's  in, it's game on....

Then we come to ingredients: - patty-pans / baby corn / 1 or 2 pkts of pootjie mixed vegi-wobbles / mushrooms / chicken drumsticks / done in beef stock... Yip beef.... then finished off with a healty helping of op gekerfde biltong, all topped up with cream /( and a few tots of a special ingrediant

two pootjies ago that won me over curry prawn and a lamb skenkel served with (special herb) <read in dagga> cookies........ hehe That got extra points for the special herb cookies BTW..... had the judges in stitches...

And everybody else.................................................

Ok so to my table.......

Three pootjies ago I got top points for "Royal Rosebank resturaunt"

Took 2 thistle cut crystal candle holders / really nice table cloth / my gold plated cutlery (set and set it out for on trey / soup / fish / main & desert / which totally confused them as to which knife & fork & spoon to use for what, AND My royal daulton Fauntenblau dinner service crockery.....

Apparantly the reason for top points for table setting was they dd not want to admit their lack of table ettikette......

So this time I'm going to do the whole army thing.... Put the cooker with the pootjie in the middle of the table, (There are 4 Judges) so four place settings are required) as I said army dixies / pik-stel set and some army paraphanilia for table decorations, and brand-new sandbags for placemats.......

OH and MOST important.... 2 army waterbottles (in their waterbottle sakkies) with 2 fire-buckets on hand one with the mampoer and the other with Straw-rum?.... For bribing of course.....

I'll post pics when it happens but I think I've got pics of the last kook-oof where I came in second.....

Cheers

To get the bacground as to why army theme, go look at my post of my spot there...

WARREN ON FB:

STAALDAK STEW COOKER CONT/.

So as promised, here are photo's of the cook-off competition a while back, came in second and won the chopping board....

We had to draw which meal to cook out of a hat, and I got Thai - stir fry, the other beal was cottage pie...

Strict rule.....you could only use what was provided....

But see I was clever... I stole all the carving knives..... hid that lot but kept one for my use.....

Hehehehe then watched the pandimonium

Then I paid the one of the kitchen staff to quietly run down to my place & well.......bring me a BIG mug of water to dring while I cooked....

But secretely it was Chatau-de-la-cardboard... Julle ken dit as papsak goed... Drank boggerall of the "water' but instead secretely laced my stir-fry......

What happens from these competitions is only competators eat for free, everyone else has to pay (about R150.00 for a meal... can have 2 plates if you want) and all the proceeds go to HAWS.... Hartbeespoort Animal Welfare Society.....

So who cares about the prize.... I think first prize was a bottle of bubbly.......

sunday
You ay only use what's provided.... So I stole all the carving knives... Hehehehehe
