I’m heading for deep troubled waters.......
You probably know by now, I collect tents, and, specifically cottage and ridge tents, and have around 17 or so
So I see this one for sale near to where I live......
and the price is not great, but reasonable......
BUT, if Chris sees another tent pitch up at the house.....
I’ll probably have to live in it for a while......
Anyhow, from an "add to my collection" point of view what you fellas think?
It must be around 1960 - 1970 by the knoppie on the top of the pole, and the seller said it used to have wooden pegs.... DAMN ! he threw them away and made his own pegs.....

Not a blooming sausage....
This is a oordentelike tent...
Netjies met geen gaate soss army styles wat met borrelgom toegeplak is.....
Ooooo nee-a-a....
Maar Voortrekker....
Hy mos n ander knaapie.....Heel ander saak... Heel toepaslik... Hy sal somme baai lekker herininge he as hy sooo inni ding op aandag le en rustig raak....![]()
Warren, if you have twenty…
Warren, if you have twenty already, you may just as well have twenty one.
In how many of them have you actually slept?
Hi Freda, as far as I can remember.....
The Sunseeker chalet... family tent
The 3x3 x 2.2 military cammo dome tent, (rubbish dump find) family size tent
The 5x5 army tent
Both of my backpacker kestrels hiking 2 person
Both of my Marachel’s cyclometer's The 101 & the 300 (rubbish dump find) hiking 2 & 3 person
My campmaster bushwacker hiking 1 man tent
A blue nylon tent, 1 person hiking, last used on the South coast... a good couple of years ago....
The hiker- lite (crap little campmaster 2 man (rubbish dump find, re-abilitated & upgraded with extra flysheet) 1 person. Rubbish tent but it is a side-entry not an end-entry
My army bivy-bag and mozzie-net (1 person), vey unusual
Obviously my easy-awn roof top tent 2 person
Two of three Sea-king hiking tents The Njasuti which is a hiking half tent half bivy 1 person and the Nkwazi which is a 2 person hiking. The Tornado is missing the flysheet, which will come along sometime
The Quetcha Arpinaz
The SUV Shelter
360 deg 1 man bivy
Yip... those are the ones that I’ve used.... 17 in total....
Then my 1974 army bush war personal shelter was used by Gryswater & Groot G at the first get-together at Mabaleliklieg.... What went on in there with the 2 of them I don’t even want to know.....
So if that counts 18 out of the 21 or 22 that I have.
Although a bit odd, It's quite an eclectic collection actually, and documents the design & materials used, structural changes and the general progression from (what was back in the 1960's - 70's the then the Campmaster of the day, sea-King until the Campmaster of today, with some examples of tents from 1955 - ish to 1965 - ish, as well as 2 extriemely rare and in top condition examples of mountaineerng tents from the 1970's
Also, shows example of large exo-skeletal design and bow design with spring steel poles and a fine example of the venerated army tent.
I've got my eye on a Swiss dome tent from the 1940's with wooden poles for R450 rand at a pawn shop nearby, that I only want to pay R300 for (they've had it for a whil now), and now this cottage tent which can be described as probibly the most well known and long lived tent design of modern times....
Yes, I know it's silly, like my braai & cooker collection, but I enjoy it....
One day, I'll put the lot up and take pictures.......
Gaan groot Warren
Awsome tent Warren moe-- maar jy het baie tente het jy al in elkeen al geslaap
Warren, the day you decide…
Warren, the day you decide to show us the collections of tents and equipment, remember to hire a rugby field somewhere.![]()
