WARREN - Adrenalin "bliksem"

So I bought one of these baitrunner reels on Sunday for R250, second-hand, at cash-Converters.

Came with a spare spool, in the box and the service diagram was still in the box.

But I don't know the reel at all ----

I was a bit doubious about the use of the word "bliksem" ---- But the reel is darn smooth & there is absolutely no back turn with the lever engaged. (most reels have a lttle backspin before it locks up)

I kinda like it

Anyone know anything about them?

"Baitrunner" refers to the construction of the reel. It is, essentially n "koffee-meul" but you can set a brake on the line while the bait is in the water --- When the fish picks it up and you strike, as soon as you wind in, the line brake is released and the spool brake takes over -- This allows you to guage the size of the fish on the line by tha action of the rod and set the spool brake so that when the fish runs your line does not break and you then "play" the fish until it comes to the side

The make of the reel is an "Adreline"  and the Model is a "Bliksem" ---- For me, when a manufacturer calls his product "bliksem" I kinda get a bit ---- sort of "rerig"? ----- NE!

Hi Warren

Ok, now I understand. My apologies.

We use them on our dam and river rods. The picture you have attached looks like one of my reals.

Very nice and smooth.

Warren, if you are lucky, you might just get one of the Orange river's bad boys on your bliksem reel. A Barbel of giant proportions, they lurk in those waters.  Set a night line for them with a strong hook and big bait.

Small mouth, scale, whatever Yellow fish are pretty active, and I have caught some nice ones in the shallow rapids with lures and flies.

Years ago, I owned this----- 75Ha of waterfront property, a boating & fishing spot on the Vaal dam --- Called "Net die plek" So here are a couple of pics...

The 2 boats on the left where mine, The first was a little boat to use as a saftey& control boat on the waterfront, the second was a 186 Intercptor with a 115 Yamaha with power trim & tilt ---

Slept many times on the water in the cabin ---- A life experience ---

Guests arriving --- The hut was my office / recetion & snoepies -- made snackwitches / Jaffles / toasted sarmies & kept beers in the roof ! --- NE! - did a roaring trade ----

Remind me to tell you about another invention of mine --- "fisherman's find-it-strings" sometime --- Another tale for another post !

Always checked customers hitch-up before they left --- amazing how many people don't couple up correctly ---- Which reminds me of another story about late arrives and a "shadow-show" worth the discount"-- but that's a story for another post --- IF SOMEBODY WANT'S TO KNOW ---

Anyhow, back to borstol cough mixture / fishing & barbel - and the point of this post

So, one sunny Sunday morning, I lay a line with a couple of of Kariba's finest worms, (had me a worm farm going) ---- Set n moerse voerbal & dipped it in Borstel cough mixture---

Why Borstel?

Good question --- Someone had left their little box of mooties & dippies behind, which I naturally found & kept --- In the box was this bottle of Borstel ---- Now I don't know if it was for them personally ----

A SIDE ISSUE

Borstel is so pungent -- I'm shure you could use it to hide somme baai sterk whiskey / brandy / mampoer asem -----

Or for fishing, but as you may probibly know, Borstel is about the most foul tasting cough suryp I've ever had ---- YUCKH!

Rather intrigued by "BORSTEL" seemd like a good "Oh,-what-the-hell" choice --- and so, that's why I used the Borstel ----

And so, I set the line, and of course nothing happened---- For a moer of a long time ----

Wait for it ----

So loosing interest in a "dead line" , I jumped on my cabin boat (Sunbird) and went for a jolly-patrollie out of the bay & sat out there for a while, lekker kaalgat sun-tanning & generally just lazing about, and after some time made my way back....

While I was out THE LINE HAD RUN!!!!! AND MOERTOE !  Not much was left on the spool --- Ne!

So I reeled in whatever had taken the Kariba's finest -- (Took me forever) And yes it was a barbel the length of which was level with my eyes and the tail in  a half curl on the ground --- And I'm 6Ft 2" !

THE BIGGEST DARN BARBEL I'VE EVER CAUGHT !  ---- And that on vieslike--- lelike--- aaklige Borstel cough mixture !

Now if I diddn't post all the pics you would say "ag --- another fishing story" -- but, there we have it its true

So -- back to your post --- Oooo-ne-a-a Die "bliksem's " n klein katrolletjie ek sal my moertoe sukkle om so groot mineer in te bring --- HOOP dit gebeur op een van my Shimano's --- hulle is man-virri-taak ---

Dankie Neef, vir die gooie herringininge wat jy terug bring ---

Not to create confusion, that is not a pic of the reel I'm referring to, It is just a pic off the net to describe a "baitrunner" where I quickly added the tags

The reel I bought, is a smallish reel ------ I can't seem to find any pics on the net, and yesterday was all about my boat, which is now repaired & in good shape, and back at home --- (Posted pics of that in my other post) So I'll try for tonight
