Warren, wat was die oorsaak dat die bottel ontplof het, het hulle dit op die vuur gesit??

Vlam wat by die nek van die bottel uitkom sal beslis nie die bottel laat ontplof nie. die gas is onder druk in die silinder, dus spuit dit weg van die silinder en die vlam se hitte is dus ook weg van die silinder. Baie mense paniek as dit gebeur, draai net die valve toe en die vlam gaan dood, daar is geen gevaar met so iets nie?

I was not there as it happened, and it's going back a long time, but as memory serves they said they had a stove plate on, it leaked and the gas took flame, and they could not get at the key to turn it off.

The flame then got very big, and engulfed the stoveplate, and that's when they decided to get the hell away, and it blew.

I rushed off down there, and ja the excitement was over.

I assume, the heat melted the washer, and caused a run away heat build up under the stoveplate, which blew the cylinder....

However it managed to happen, the consequences where quite something to see. I can tell you this, that without a doubt, If that happened in a caravan, it would have completely destroyed the caravan...

Now that I talk about this, On the bottleing machine that I use to seal glass ampules, which runs off LP & oxygen, each line has a spark arrestor in the supply pipe.... One in the oxygen supply and one in the LP supply. Obviously they are there because there is a possibility of a back-flash.

Now I'm no expert on how things are "logically supposed to" happen when it comes to gas,  I'm rather focused on "not giving it a chance to happen", if you get my drift...

I've had it happen a few times that my stoveplate leaked under the thing... the whole sound changes, but I was able to turn the thing off.

I found out by trial and error that the rubber washer must only be inserted one way round, and that a blocked jet also leads to the same problem......so I'm just passing it on, in the interests of "not giving it a chance to happen"

BTW, old gas cylinders.......... I got a few very old ones, and they still work one hundred % fine, even for a scaredy-cat like me.....
